Isopods
Isopods are crustaceans that inhabit both land and water. Terrestrial isopods in the Armadillidiidae family are known as pill bugs, woodlice, roly polies, potato bugs or sow bugs, and can be used in herpetoculture to keep reptile and amphibian habitats clean. Most land species of isopods are detrivores that feed on mold and decaying matter. They can also be used as a prey item for insectivores as they provide a high amount of calcium in their exoskeleton. Isopods have gill-like structures for breathing, and therefore should not be placed in dry environments, such as desert reptile habitats. Excellent tank cleaners!
